Celebrating our Commitment to Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs)

At KAYAHAN, we firmly believe that the foundation of a sustainable future lies in ensuring that each individual is treated with equality and upholding the preservation of human dignity. In alignment with this vision, we are elated to announce that in April 2023, KAYAHAN became a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), an initiative of the United Nations.

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are a set of guiding values that advise businesses on how to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in the workplace, marketplace, and community. Established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women, the WEPs are rooted in international labour and human rights standards, recognizing that businesses have both a stake in and a responsibility towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.

WEPs serve as the primary vehicle for corporate contributions towards gender equality as part of the 2030 agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By joining the WEPs community, KAYAHAN is signalling our commitment to this agenda at the highest levels of the company and showcasing our intent to work collaboratively with multi-stakeholder networks to foster business practices that empower women. These practices include equal pay for equal work, gender-responsive supply chain practices, and zero tolerance against sexual harassment in the workplace.

Our policies for empowering our female workforce are listed below:

  • Ensure fair treatment of all women and men in business, respecting human rights and the principle of non-discrimination, and actively support these principles.
  • Safeguard all male and female employees’ health, safety, and welfare.
  • Support educational, training, and professional development opportunities for women.
  • Employ entrepreneurial development, supply chain, and marketing methods to empower women.
  • Advocate for equality through social initiatives and advocacy work.
  • Assess and publicly report achievements in gender equality.
